Strangles is a highly contagious upper respiratory tract infection spread by direct or indirect contact with infected horses. Horses of all ages are susceptible to Strangles, which is caused by Steptococcus equi infection. Strepvax® II is an equine vaccine approved for vaccinating healthy horses of all ages as an aid in the prevention of Strangles due to Streptococcus equi infection.
Strepvax® II contains a killed bacteria and is well tolerated by most horses. When combined with good hygiene and isolation of affected individuals, Strepvax® II will help to limit the occurrence of clinical disease. This is the only S. equi vaccine that can be administered to horses intramuscularly (IM), providing ultimate convenience.
Supplied as a single dose syringe (with needle) or 10 dose bottle (needles and syringes sold separately).
Ingredients: Strepvax® II contains a concentrated, aluminum hydroxide - absorbed suspension of purified antigens derived from S. equi cells. Strepvax II contains the antigenic protein of S. equi but is essentially free of the toxic and irritant substances present in whole cell bacterins.
Indications: Strepvax® II is for use in healthy horses of all ages as an aid in the prevention of disease (strangles) due to Streptococcus equi infection.
Dosage and Administration: Administer 1 ml (1 dose) Strepvax® II Intramuscular, preferably in the hind quarters. For primary vaccination give 3 doses at intervals of 3 weeks. Foals vaccinated when less than 3 months of age should receive an additional dose at 6 months.
Revaccinate annually and prior to anticipated exposure, using a single 1 ml dose.
Storage: Store at 35°-45°F (2°-7°C).
