When an infected mosquito bites your dog or puppy, heartworm larvae can migrate through the tissue. After three months, the larvae enter the bloodstream and eventually end up in the pulmonary artery. If untreated, these larvae can grow into adult worms in about 6 months, which can lead to heart, lung, liver and kidney damage in your pet.

Heartgard® Plus for Dogs is a once-monthly oral medication that helps prevent heartworm disease in dogs and puppies 6 weeks of age and older. This powerful canine dewormer kills heartworm larvae as well as roundworms and hookworms to help prevent serious damage to your pet. It contains two highly effective active ingredients: ivermectin, which causes paralysis and death of heartworm larvae, and pyrantel pamoate, which caused paralysis and death of intestinal worms. Together, these ingredients work to protect your dog or puppy from potentially deadly heartworm disease and parasite infection for up to 30 days.

Heartgard® Plus for Dogs is provided in the form of easy to administer, beef-flavored chews. When used according to label instructions, these delicious chews are safe for stud dogs, breeding or pregnant female dogs, and puppies 6 weeks of age and older. The chews should be administered in a manner that encourages your dog to chew, rather than swallow without chewing.
