Penicillin G Potassium Powder for Injection

Penicillin G Potassium is a prescription antibiotic used to treat serious bacterial infections. It belongs to the penicillin class of antibiotics and works by stopping the growth of bacteria. This high-dose vial contains 20 million units and is prescription only.

Indications: Penicillin G is indicated for systemic use in horses, cattle, and sheep for respiratory infections and in swine for treatment of erysipelas. It has also been used for susceptible infections in dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, rabbits, and other small mammals.

• Horses, Cattle and Sheep: bacterial pneumonia (shipping fever) caused by pasteurella multocida

• Swine: Erysipelas cause by the bacterium Erysipelothrix rhusiopathiae.

Dosage and Administration: Consult your veterinarian. Depending on the route of administration, reconstitute with Sterile Water for Injection, USP or Sterile Isotonic Sodium Chloride for parenteral use.

Caution: Residue Warnings

1. Not for use in horses intended for food.

2. Milk that has been taken from animals during treatment and for 48 hours after the treatment must not be used for food. The daily treatment schedule should not exceed seven (7) days of treatment in non-lactating dairy and beef cattle, sheep, and swine, or five (5) days in lactating dairy cattle.

3. The drug should be discontinued for the following time periods before treated animals are slaughtered for food: Cattle-4 days, Sheep- 8 days, Swine -6 days, non-ruminating calves-7 days.

Storage: Store the dry powder at 20° to 25° C (69° to 77° F). Sterile constituted solution may be kept in refrigerator 2° to 8° C (36° to 46° F) for 7 days without significant loss of potency. Use only as directed. Dispose of containers in an approved landfill or by incineration.
