UltraCruz® Equine Ichthammol for Horses is an emollient for the skin, containing 20% Ichthammol, that can also be used for minor itching and skin irritations, and promote healing of minor wounds. Ichthammol has been shown to promote the healing of a variety of skin ailments in horses such as sores, minor wounds, skin infections and boils. Ichthammol helps draw out infection and pus from open sores and wounds, and it is also useful as a treatment for hoof abscesses.

Due to its versatility in equine wound care, this ointment is a must-have product for any barn or stable. Ichthammol aids in the healing of horse wounds, chaps, skin irritations, boils and abscesses. Ichthammol has an outstanding ability to help heal cuts, scrapes, and rope burns and also helps to maintain a normal inflammatory reaction.

Ichthammol is extremely effective for drawing infection or debris from a wound or hoof. When used as a hoof treatment, Ichthammol can be mixed with Epsom salt to support an increased drawing effect. Ichthammol is also an effective salve in cases of fly bites on ears or around tails, and for the removal of tick infestation on manes and tails.

Do not rub or massage this product into affected areas.

Is this product best for just coronary band abscesses? How is it best applied to the hoof? After application would you still wrap hoof?

Is the traditional stinky creosote-smell ichthammol? I've been sold substitutes, not nearly as good for a hoof abscess.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classic Ichthammol!Our vet recommended ichthammol to deter our nimble gelding from removing a bandage. I quickly learned that many new ichthammol formulas do not have the familiar stinky tar odor and are ineffective. Luckily UltraCruz Ichthammol still uses the old formula. Our horse is leaving the ichtammol coated bandage in place and the wound is healing. Thanks Santa Cruz Animal Health!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for abscessesMy OTTB has her race plates pulled and then she was stalled. So when she came to me and got 24/7 turnout, her poor feet had to get used to it. Many abscesses. My farrier told me to get this to draw it out since most of hers were right on the coronary band which meant I couldn’t just open and drain them.

My 9yo AQH Gelding cut his lower right leg really bad on an old piece of fence about 2 almost 3 weeks before I got this salve. His healing progress was soooo slow and then it just kinda stopped healing no changes day after day. He has only had this product applied for 3 days and his wound is soo much better! Its healing, its much cleaner than ever before. The Ichthammol has completely changed how his wound is healing, I now am recommending it to everyone!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wonderful for belly itch and sores from fly bitesI use Ultra Cruz Ichthammol for many things on my horses, but especially for treating the raw, intensely itchy areas on their bellies (and other areas) from flies and culicoides midges. It provides a protective barrier that can last for several days, and seems to relieve a lot of the itching. It doesn't permanently stain my gray/white horses, or white socks if they're still kicking at their belly. I've been using Ultra Cruz ichthammol for years and have never had an adverse reaction. This is also the best price around.
