Vitamin C for Horses - A single blonde horse on San Juan Ranch

For a comprehensive antioxidant formula, we recommend feeding horses UltraCruz® Equine Antioxidant Supplement for Horses.

What is an antioxidant?

Antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E and Selenium are substances that neutralize free radicals to support healthy tissues and organs on a cellular level. Antioxidant support is recommended for horses subject to rigorous exercise and may help to reduce the negative effects of oxidative stress.

What is a free radical?

Free radicals are highly reactive chemicals with the potential to cause damage to cells. Free radicals can be produced naturally by the body during times of heavy exercise.

Pellet vs. Powder Supplement Formulations

UltraCruz® Supplements are now available in pelletized formulations. By using pellets, rather than powder, we have been able to:

Vitamin C for Horses - Piles of Equine Supplement pellets
  • Ensure stability of active ingredients
  • Maximize product freshness
  • Reduce waste

All San Juan Ranch performance and breeding horses use UltraCruz® Equine pelletized products.

Just how stabilized is the vitamin C in these pellets? How long after manufacture does the vitamin C start to degrade and will keeping them in the refrigerator extend the time that the vitamin c will remain stabilized?

What if your horse is at a barn that only feeds once a day? Could giving my horse 2 scoops of the pellets once a day be harmful to him?

Asked by: LouCoder
Thank you for inquiring with Santa Cruz Animal Health. This product is labelled to be fed at a rate of 1 scoop per 1000 lb horse twice daily. We would recommend consulting with your veterinarian prior to making any dietary changes.

I will need to get 16000 mg in my horse per day what is the milligram dosing in this package

Asked by: Susan
Hello! Both the powder and the pellets contain 9,000 mg of Ascorbic Acid per serving (which is 2 scoops). Each scoop contains about 4,500 mg. If you are looking to supplement the 16,000, which is over our recommended dosage, you would need about 3.5 scoops of supplement. We recommend consulting a vet before supplementing anything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A Winter StapleHopefully, in older horses, added Vitamin C fills in where their ability to generate Vitamin C diminishes with age. The UltraCruz® Equine Vitamin C product is also the most cost effective when compared to other like-products.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for a Very Picky EaterI bought the pellets to feed to my 26 y.o. Arabian mare who has always been an incredibly picky eater. She has always been a hard keeper and has recently been losing more weight. My veterinarian recommended Vitamin C. I was very concerned my mare wouldn't eat it, but she gobbles it right up. Using this along with the Vitamin E pellets, her appetite is improving and she is looking better all the time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing!!!After looking at my horses coat and some minor skin issues, I decided to start him on Vitamin C! Especially with his older age of 23, I wanted to make sure he continued to look well! Within a month of starting, the vet was absolutely blown away by how well his coat looks. His minor skin stuff disappeared too! Great product. Will forever use and recommend
