Vitamin C is an antioxidant that works to protect the tissues of the body and may help reduce oxidative damage caused by free radicals.

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that works closely with Selenium and Vitamin C to protect the body from the oxidative stress of exercise. While Vitamin E is found naturally in fresh grass, levels begin to drop immediately after grass is cut for hay. Horses without access to pasture, as well those in heavy work or under stress, may benefit from supplemental Vitamin E.

Selenium is a trace mineral that partners with Vitamin E in the body's antioxidant defense system to trap free radicals produced by exercise. Check your horse's Selenium levels through a veterinarian before adding Selenium supplementation to its diet, as excessive levels can be toxic.
